DUBAI DEPOSIT GUIDE

Car Rental Deposit Not Returned in Dubai?

You returned the car, but the deposit has not come back. Before deciding what to do next, establish what happened to the payment, what the rental company promised and what evidence you have.

Start with the transaction state

A card hold or pre-authorisation is different from a completed transaction. A hold may reduce available credit without appearing as a final purchase. A completed deposit charge may later need a separate refund. Check the original entry and its current status in your bank or card account rather than relying on one label alone.

What did the rental company promise?

A specific date was given

Save the message, email or agreement showing the date. If it has passed, record the date and ask for a factual update, including whether a release or refund was initiated and any reference the company can provide.

No specific date was given

Check the rental agreement and final invoice for relevant terms. Ask the company to confirm the expected process and date in writing. Avoid treating an unverified general deadline as if it were part of your agreement.

The company stopped responding

Keep copies of your contact attempts, including dates, channels and any delivery indicators. A clear record is more useful than repeated messages with no timeline.

Was some money returned?

A partial return may reflect a stated deduction or an amount that has not yet been explained. Ask what each deduction is for and what information supports it. Damage, Salik, traffic fines, fuel, mileage and cleaning are distinct categories and should not be combined into an unexplained balance.

Evidence worth collecting

  • Rental agreement and the company's deposit terms.
  • Deposit payment or card-hold record.
  • Vehicle handover or return evidence and final invoice.
  • Messages about a promised release or refund date.
  • Bank or card entries showing the current transaction state.
  • Any deduction explanation, receipt, photograph or supporting record supplied.

If you have already left Dubai or the UAE

You can still organize the facts remotely. Preserve documents and correspondence, use dates and amounts consistently, and confirm which contact and official route applies to your circumstances before submitting anything.

Prepare before escalating

Build a short factual timeline: vehicle returned, deposit state checked, promise made, promised date passed, follow-up sent and response received. DepositBack helps organize this information for self-help preparation; it does not act as a law firm, representative or complaint service.

Frequently asked questions

Does a merchant saying “refunded” mean the money is available?

Not necessarily. Merchant processing and bank or card processing can be separate stages. Ask when the action was initiated and check the transaction state with your financial institution.

What if I do not have every document?

Start with what you have. Identify missing items rather than guessing their contents.

Can DepositBack contact the rental company for me?

No. DepositBack is an independent self-help preparation service. You decide whether and how to use your organized materials.
